This seems like the recording with the best low end, but the Neumann source picks up the high end a little better, so it's really up to you. I personally prefer this one. Now onto the show...
Most people who deeply follow the Dead world are aware of the Phil Lesh Quintet, otherwise known as the Q. The band formed in the Fall of 2000 and consisted of Phil Lesh, Rob Barraco, John Molo, Warren Haynes, and Jimmy Herring. Besides putting out a studio album, they also played some of the best live Dead shows post Jerry's death that we have heard to this day as of writing. This band is not that however, as it contains one key difference - Jimmy Herring is not present but a young Derek Trucks is! To say this was mind-blowing when I first found out about this is an understatement...and opening for Dylan too!! For additional context, Derek had officially joined the ABB less than half a year earlier. The band performed (if I'm not mistaken) 10 shows from 11/2/99, after Steve Kimock dropped out, to 11/14/99. The next day, Jorma Kaukonen from Airplane and Hot Tuna joins the band and takes over in place of Trucks for the last few shows.
I believe this single set presents some of the best playing not just from this tour but from the early Phil Lesh and Friends era. For a 20 year old musician he spars with Warren like he's been playing for centuries! The prelude to the Feelin' Groovy jam contained with Dark Star is a prime example. Utmost fantastic groove in Fantasy. We can also hear Barraco adding in wonderful fills, but not as comfortably as you would hear him do so with the Q & later in his career, but still amazing. Molo is front and center and in many ways leads the band as much as Phil. Phil himself is extremely forward and is just carpet bombing the place to bits. He's beginning to exude the massive confidence in his playing again that we haven't really seen since the 70's. THIS is the beginning of something greater, furthur down the line...
Check out the other shows they performed, this is an excellent prelude of what would come in the next couple of years. Currently digging the Stephen>11 jam>NFA from 11/14/99
